If you are born again (John 3:1-7, Romans 10:9-10) the Holy Spirit lives in you. A thorough study of of the Bible grants the sincere seeker amazing life changing revelations about God, his nature, purpose and plan. If your intention is genuine, He has already began His work in you without you knowing it.

Firstly, the phrase ‘holy spirit’ or ‘holy ghost’ is not the name of the third person of the God head. Its a place holder for a being we cannot understand or grasp 100%. We understand him and he is in us and with us to teach us and help us live to our full potential in Christ. He is God and there might be that aspect of God that finite beings may not be able to understand with our brains. This should not discourage you.

The scriptures shed some light on the most powerful, loving and gracious (the qualifiers are endless) person of the God heard. Here are a few outlined for the purpose the the question.

  • We know from scripture that He is spirit
  • We know from scripture that He is a person and not a dove, force or wind.
  • We know from scripture that He is God.
  • We know that Christianity without the Holy Spirit is religion, empty and dead.
  • We know that Spirits can enter physical beings.

But we do not know what spirit is made of, neither can we explain all aspects of the Holy Spirit. So what else do we know from scripture?

We know that Jesus promised us the coming of the Holy Spirit and the prophets even prophesied this was God’s plan and will – to dwell in all who believe in His Son Jesus Christ and confess his lordship – those who have received salvation.

Does he dwell in everyone on earth? No!

He dwells in all those who believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior.

Acts:2:38, Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (NIV), “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
